Asha Coordination Team Internship

Asha for Education is a 100% volunteer driven organization that aims to catalyze socio-economic change in India through the education of under-privileged kids. Asha for Education is structured with chapters located in various cities across United States and a single central coordination team that manages legal, web and financial aspects of the organization. Most of the volunteers in Asha are professionals from a wide variety of industries who bring a very enthusiastic and diverse thinking to the organization. The individual in the internship position will be working closely with the members of the central coordination team including the treasurer, secretary and other board members of the organization, and will have a great opportunity to understand the legal, financial and other aspects of running a non-profit organization.  The internship position will provide a great opportunity to network with professionals in the industry.  The interns who satisfactorily complete their internship term tasks will be duly recognized through volunteer certificates and letters of recommendation from board members as appropriate. Position Title:  Web Team intern (UI)

Length of the term:  Approx 2 months

Position Description:  As a Web Designer, you will take part in showcasing projects. You will then use your creative professional skills to create wire frames and mock ups and present them to the team. Once selections and tweaks are made, you will then create layouts using images, HTML, CSS, PHP and JavaScript for integration by the engineering team. Candidates in this internship position are expected to be self-driven individuals who can take up the assigned tasks and follow them through to completion.

Skill set required:

Experience in graphic design with a web user experience focus
A keen eye for design aesthetics
Understanding of interactive design concepts, including usability
Ability to design eye-catching graphics
HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript
Knowledge of browser capabilities and cross-browser compatibility issues
Self-starter, exercising great attention to detail, and meeting deadlines.
Able to communicate and play well with others during creative evolutions

Position Title:  Web Team intern (Back-end)

Length of the term:  Approx 2 months

Position Description:  As a Developer, you will be responsible for Monitoring servers for stability and taking both proactive and reactive measures to correct and prevent issues. Providing fellow system administrators and support representatives with technical support and guidance. Installing, configuring, and maintaining services on the linux servers. Candidates in this internship position are expected to be self-driven individuals who can take up the assigned tasks and follow them through to completion.

Skill set required:
Understanding of Linux administration
Knowledge of web hosting, web and database server
Knowledge of bash and Perl shell scripting
Initiative to work independently and in a team
Environment consists of Apache web server, PHP, MySQL, Atlassian products, Subversion

Position Title : PR/Publicity Team Intern

Length of the term : Approx 4 months

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Help chapters with publicity ideas, material and outreach strategy.
  • Collect and archive copies/clips of articles and other media coverage received at the chapter level.
  • Help the PR team with designing and formatting Annual Report.
  • Create and design advertisement for print media and web portal during fundrasing activites like Work An Hour (WAH), Asha Marathon, Concert, Holi.
  • Create proposal for publicity sponsorship and corporate donations.

Skill set required: 
1) Candidate must have a background in publicity / PR / Fundraising (preferably in the non-profit sector). Prior work experience highly desirable.
2) Working knowledge in Adobe Photoshop,Pagemaker,Illustrator and Microsoft Office application (Word, Powerpoint).
3) Good communication and writing skills.
